Upright MRI

Dr. McCord quickly recognized Upright MRI technology could expand diagnostic capabilities for spine patients experiencing back and neck pain. This revolutionary new MRI offered imaging for patients in weight-bearing positions, previously impossible to obtain. Dr. McCord brought this technology to Tennessee in 2008, seeking to advance positive outcomes for patients with spine pain. The Upright MRI in Nashville TN is now owned and operated by Premier Radiology.

For many patients symptoms improve while lying down since upright weight is negated. Diagnoses for weight-bearing abnormalities have been documented at times to be incomplete or even missed when performed on traditional, lie-down MRIs. By scanning the spine in the position pain occurs, such as standing, sitting, leaning, and bending, diagnoses have been recorded to be more accurate.  Utilizing Upright MRI technology aids Dr. McCord in designing more precise treatment plans toward achieving better patient results.

In addition, traditional MRIs require patients to lie still inside an enclosed noisy dark tube for an extended period. Many patients become uncomfortable and experience stress, anxiety and difficulty breathing. The Upright MRI is open which minimizes claustrophobia, and it can scan larger patients who cannot fit in traditional MRIs. For the most common scans, patients simply walk in, sit down and watch TV.

The images of the MRI above are only an example of an upright MRI. The actual upright MRI may be different from the images.
